Clearing My Head

LaQuanda “Que” Simpson has always found her way to peace and serenity. I asked her to share some of her haunts for mental clarity Gate open. – Victorine

“I am so blessed to experience mornings like the one below! So peaceful and serene. I’ve walked to this creek for 14 years. Oh…. this area has blessed me so! I do not take it for granted.”

I had a ball Juneteenth weekend in FLORENCE ALABAMA! Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! I didn’t have to travel anywhere to celebrate with my people. Black people came out and supported!

The spirit of celebration was in the air and I was intoxicated!

I had my own ceremony which consisted of me honoring my journey to date and my linage with understanding it is so because of them.

I talked to my kids and others about slavery and freedom we have today that those before us dreamed of and broke back for.

I danced amongst the community to live music – Kenn Orr, Kush Reggae Band, Kirkman and Band, Midnighters, and other local artists.

I saw people that reminded me of my roots. Previously, I felt culturally deprived.

I saw people I hadn’t seen in years!

I expressed and showed up as me!

“I’m grateful for the trees and what they do for me. I exhale and relax every time I reach this point. Every step I make in this environment is calming. It doesn’t matter if there is an issue or not. Sometimes, I have to be forced to leave.”

Nice morning for a ride!

LaQuanda is a vibrant spirit moving to the rhythms of life. She was born in Selma Alabama! She believes freedom was given to her as a birth right! LaQuanda has traveled around the sun 31 times! She has invested 10 years in growing one seed. His name is Kwami Malik Ingram! Her grandparents would say LaQuanda is a good gardener because she listens! Gardening relaxes her mind and purifies her soul, drumming and dancing too! LaQuanda is a recent graduate of Geography Information Science at the University of North Alabama in Florence Alabama! She is an explorer and she loves adventure! Among friends she is better known as Que!
